The Link Between Vitamin D and Obesity - How You Could Be Affected

I'm sure you have all heard the hoopla about Vitamin D in the press recently.
As it turns out, it's not really hoopla and we should all be paying attention. It has been documented that a third of Australians are deficient in Vitamin D.
Why is this a big deal?
Low levels of Vitamin D contribute to a number of serious conditions such as Osteoporosis, Heart Disease, certain types of cancer and alarmingly, type 2 diabetes.
We have Vitamin D receptors throughout our body and this vitamin is essential for cell growth, neuromuscular and immune function and reducing inflammation. But here is the interesting fact about Vitamin D that I want to focus on today: Vitamin D deficiency and obesity are inextricably linked.
The more body fat you have the more likely it is that your Vitamin D levels are low. Why is that? The reason is simple: Scientists have reasoned that because Vitamin D is fat soluble it gets easily sequestered or "stuck" in your fat tissue.
So with more and more of our population finding themselves in the obese category can we expect to see a higher rate of Osteoporosis, heart disease and type 2 diabetes? The answer to that question is, yes, probably.
So if you are overweight and low in Vitamin D, take action NOW before it's too late.
STEP 1) Remove all processed foods from your diet
STEP 2) Replace them with fresh fruit & veg, whole grains and lean meats.
STEP 3) Go outside and start moving. The sunshine will boost your Vitamin D levels and the exercise will burn that Vitamin D sequestering fat.
If you haven't exercised in a while and need help getting motivated then I suggest investing some time and money in a Personal Trainer to ensure you get the absolute best type of exercise for you at the correct intensity so that you get the best result in the quickest time frame without injury or mishap. If hiring a Personal Trainer is definitely out of your price range then consider a small group fitness class so that you get the attention you deserve. Try to avoid signing up for yet another membership at the gym, try something outdoors to get that much needed sunshine and make sure there is someone there who will keep you accountable.
And in the meantime add some of these Vitamin D boosting foods to your diet:
Salmon
Sardines
Tuna
Yoghurt
